Having dry, red, irritated skin can be annoyingly painful. It may occur due to a sudden change in weather, a result of too much stress, inflammation, or any other cause. Because the skin is delicate, it is important to apply only natural remedies that will help relieve irritation.
Drink lots of water – Drinking enough water is especially beneficial for dry and acne-prone skin. Try to drink at least 3 liters of water every day to keep you hydrated. Dehydration will show on your skin, turning it dry, tight, and flaky. Drinking enough water helps prevent dehydration lines that can appear on your face, which may resemble wrinkles.
Find your “beauty foods” – Certain foods can cause inflammation, which can lead to acne and other skin problems. These include foods like dairy, gluten, and sugar. Conversely, there are foods that fight inflammation and support skin health. Papaya, for example, is rich in vitamin A, which prevents acne, and vitamin E, which helps maintain your skin’s youthful appearance. It is also packed with vitamin C, which promotes collagen production. Kale is also good for your skin as it contains vitamin C and lutein, a carotenoid and antioxidant that can potentially help with dryness. Another beauty food you may try is avocado, which is rich in healthy fats that can make your skin feel more supple.
Get enough sleep – Getting enough sleep is important for the skin; during sleep, the skin produces new collagen which prevents premature aging. Lack of sleep is one of the causes of acne and fine lines, so make sure to get seven to nine hours of sleep every night. (Related: The key to looking younger may be as simple as getting eight hours of sleep each night.)
Sweat it out – Sweating, either through exercise or sauna, is also good for the skin, especially if you have acne or pimples. Your pores open and release the buildup inside of them, helping to prevent breakouts. Similar to getting enough sleep, exercising also has the added skin benefit of reducing stress, which can lead to less cortisol production.
Use natural ingredients – One of the best natural ingredients for treating signs of skin dryness or acne is honey. Honey alone or any honey-based product is a great remedy because of its antibacterial, antimicrobial, and moisturizing properties. Honey is also rich in antioxidants that can slow signs of aging. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe redness and reduce acne.
You can make your own honey face mask at home. To make one, you will need 1 tablespoon of manuka or raw honey, 1/8 teaspoon of ground turmeric, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Mix the ingredients together, and then apply to your face using a clean makeup brush or fingers. Before applying, make sure that you washed your face and removed your makeup. Put the mask on for at least 15 minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water. Use a face cloth to help remove the sticky residue. Use this honey face mask once a week to keep your skin healthy and glowing.
